About the Event
The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon is organized in memory of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, the sole recipient of the Param Vir Chakra from the Indian Air Force. In Srinagar during the 1971 War, Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon defended the airfield single-handedly against six Pakistani Sabre jets in his Folland Gnat. His sublime heroism, supreme quality of leadership, and complete disregard for personal safety remain in the highest traditions of the IAF.
